Company Profile – The International School of Kuala Lumpur
Established in 1965, the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) is the first fully accredited international school in Malaysia.
ISKL is a private, not for profit, parent-governed school accredited in the United States through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and internationally through the Council of International Schools (CIS).
Among the programs offered are Prep Reception (3 years old) to High School diploma, the International Baccalaureate diploma and Advanced Placement courses.
ISKL provides high quality education for expatriate children residing with their families in Kuala Lumpur and academically qualified Malaysian students. More than 1600 students attend ISKL from more than 60 countries. In view of ISKL’s diverse student population, the programs have been designed to nurture the students’ appreciation of other cultures.
Key to the school’s success is the active involvement of all members of the school community. The Board of Directors is composed of parents elected by the parent community. Parents also volunteer through the Parent Teacher Association and Booster Club, supporting the wide variety of after-school activities and other special programs throughout the year.
As of 2012, there are approximately 1600 students from more than 65 countries, with the most common nationalities being American, Korean, Malaysian, and Indian. Other smaller nationalities include the Netherlands, Japan, Australia, United Kingdom, Canada, France and Pakistan. A majority of students have parents working for oil companies or embassies, as ISKL has very strong ties with the embassies in Kuala Lumpur, especially the United States embassy. ISKL’s faculty comprises highly qualified and experienced individuals, many from the USA and Canada, with over 75% of them holding degrees at Masters and Doctorate level.
